Take the Plastic Free July Challenge

The Plastic Free July Challenge is a challenge that lasts a full month and it is based on a simple task, namely to say no to plastic for an entire month. This challenge is designed to reduce the use of plastic containers, bottles, bags and casseroles that many foods and drinks come in so that the effects of plastic degradation on the environment will be smaller. Are you up for the challenge?

A major problem

The main problem with plastic containers and bottles is that people toss them everywhere and they end up in the waters and soil, where they are either ingested by animals or they decomposes into harmful substances. People who are aware of the dangerous effects of plastic on the environment try to recycle it and use as little as possible. This is how the Plastic Free July Challenge was born in order to mobilize people to reduce the number of disposable plastic items that they use for a short amount of time then throw away.

And plenty of solutions

When you first think about it, you will find it impossible to last a full month without using plastic, when everything around you contains plastic. But if you put your mind into it, there are plenty of ways to ditch all those useless plastic bags, bottles and containers you buy every day. Here are some ideas that will turn you into an environmentally-friendly person.

  • Bottled water is bought in large amounts and is one of the main plastic containers that ends up in the trash, so you can start by limiting the number of water bottles you buy. If you used to buy bottled water because your tap water is dirty and unsafe to drink, you can install a water filter at home to make sure the water you drink is clean and free of contaminants. If you don’t know much about home water filters, go to the website. There, you will find numerous filter reviews, from small countertop filters to whole house water filter system reviews. Any type of filter can help you reduce your plastic waster.
  • Instead of using plastic bags, take your canvas bag with you at the market and carry your groceries in it. Keep a canvas bag in the car or in your purse so you will always have it with you when you want to buy something.
  • When you buy fruits and vegetables, don’t wrap them in plastic foil and opt for stretchy mesh fabric bags that can hold up to 3 kg of products.
  • Instead of using plastic casseroles, cover the bowl of leftovers with a ceramic plate and place it in the refrigerator.
